The Bearkats commenced their season by squashing La Joya-Lincoln Juarez 47-10 while on the road on Thursday.

Skylore Janes made seven catches, gained 103 yards and scored on a 67-yard run. B.J. Flores rushed for 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

"Our kids were pretty focused and they played hard and well," Head Coach Alex Leal said. "We still have a lot of quirks we have to fix, defensively we allowed some big pass plays to be completed on us even though we also made seven interceptions. Offensively we were inconsistent at times and we need to correct that too; the good thing is we came out of our first ball game injury free which is very important."

Alex Montalvo scored Raymondville's final touchdown on a 35-yard run. A brief fight broke out on the ensuing extra point.

"We kicked an extra point and one of our kids was being pummeled by an opposing player while he was down, which you can clearly see on the film, they just started hitting our guy," Leal said. "When our other players saw that they got into it, it only lasted about a minute and it was all over. Sometimes those things happen when kids are playing in the heat of battle or they lack self discipline but it was nothing that our kids instigated and I am proud of our players who handled their composure very well."

The Bearkats host Hidalgo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

"In order to beat Hidalgo, we are going to have to execute very well; we cannot afford to have lapses or turnovers, we just need to play good solid football offensively and defensively," Leal said. "Hidalgo is a very good football team and we just have to be on our toes for the entire 48 minutes. It could be a tough task, just like last week's game was supposed to be, but hopefully we will continue doing a great job on the field."
