Bastrop chief resigns after DWI arrest
BASTROP, Texas (AP) -The police chief in Bastrop has resigned after been charged with DWI following his arrest last month in Austin.
Chief David Board was pulled over Aug. 16, charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, then released on a personal recognizance bond.
The 46-year-old lawman had been police chief in Bastrop, about 25 miles southeast of Austin, since 2002. His resignation was announced Tuesday by the city.
Board, who was placed on leave following his arrest, resigned Monday night, but will be allowed to remain on leave through Oct. 31 in order to reach full retirement benefits.
Assistant Chief Matt Wagner leads the department until a permanent chief is named.
