Stock Show grand champion fetches $106,000
DENVER ( AP) - A 1,315 pound steer raised by an 11- year- old boy from Newcastle, Okla., fetched $ 106,000 at the 2012 National Western Stock Show Auction of Junior Livestock Champions.
The Denver Post reports Baylor Bonham, a fifth- grader, will keep 90 percent of the sale price with 10 percent going the National Western Scholarship Trust. The steer named “ Stripe,” was named grand champion Thursday and spent a few hours on view Friday at The Brown Palace Hotel in downtown Denver before being auctioned.
The six- figure auction price is the highest since the auction hit a high of $110,000 in 2008. The top steers at the show were averaging about $ 55,000 from 2009 until last year.
